A life time of working in foundries and smoking from the age of 12 (he gave up when he was 75 ‘because of his chest’), had taken its toll. My Dad suffered from acute emphysema. Benylin was consumed by the bottleful; he never used a teaspoon, and even though it did little good, he thought it a cure-all. The calamine lotion eased the itchiness of his eczema. Looking at a bottle of Benylin in our bathroom cabinet triggers memories of him coughing in the night, which in turn leads, inevitably, to other thoughts.
