The play settings dialog allows you to set the options used for playing scales/riffs.
From here you can specify the following:
Octave: You can pick the octave to use for the starting note when playing scales/riffs.
Loop If this is checked, when a scale/riff is played, it will keep looping around until stopped.
Here you can specify the following:
Speed: The slider allows a tempo to be selected for playing scales/riffs. This is measured in beats per minute (BPM) from 40 (Largo) through to 208 (Prestissimo).
Play straight scales as: When playing a basic scale, a note will be played on each beat. You may find this too slow if you want to parctise the scale at high speed. To get around this, you may use this option to specify that when playing a basic scale either 1, 2, or 4 notes are played on each beat.

Use: Three radio buttons allow you to specify how percussion beat(s) should be played:
On-beat Voice: From the list you can pick a type of percussion to use for on-beat. The preview button next to the list can be used to hear what this voice sounds like.
Off-beat Voice: From the list you can pick a type of percussion to use for off-beat. The preview button next to the list can be used to hear what this voice sounds like.
