The annual NCPF Northern Area 5-Way Print Competition took place at Morpeth Camera Club on Tuesday 3rd April. Five clubs, Alnwick, Ashington, Blyth, Cambois and Morpeth each submitted 4 mono and 4 colour prints which were very ably judged by Dr Doug Hogg LRPS of Cramlington CC. There were more than 30 members representing the five clubs and they enjoyed seeing a very good display of prints, some perceptive and humourous judging, a big raffle and a splendid supper courtesy of Morpeth Camera Club.

Morpeth, the host club won the competition with 224 points and Alnwick were 2nd with 210.

"Wallington Gates" by John Thompson was awarded the top mark of 30.

The annual SET SUBJECT SLIDE CATEGORY COMPETITION took place at Cambois Camera Club on Sunday March 25th.

Not all the expected clubs were able to join in so the competition was between Alnwick, Ashington, Cambois and Morpeth with Anne Swearman, ARPS as the judge.

As usual in a competition such as this there was a great variety of subject matter and treatment in what was a generally high quality entry which did not suggest that slides, ie images on film stock, were dropping out of club activities.

Only 20 members, not counting the judge, from the four clubs were present but the afternoon was a very enjoyable one of interesting, well photographed images and constructive, insightful comment from the judge. This was followed by a very good spread of eats and drinks courtesy of Cambois Camera Club.

For Alnwick there was good news and bad news.

The good news is that Jane Coltman scored the top mark of 30 for her image "Jack and his Bird". The bad news (or at least not very good news) is that Alnwick came 4th out of the four clubs. What looked like a good entry turned out to be not strong enough. We will do better next time!

1st Northern Counties International Print Salon 2007

Until this year this International Salon was run by South Shields Photographic Society. When they found that it would no longer be possible for the Club to act as host it was taken over by the Northern Counties Photographic Federation under the guiding hand of Jane Black ARPS. Nearly 2500 prints from all over the world were entered for this 1st NCPF INTERNATIONAL SALON out of which just over 20% were accepted. Four Members of our Club had work accepted:

Ken Baker LRPS
"Thrum Mill"
"Storm Light over Holy Island"

Alastair Cochrane
"Little and Large"
"Winterscape"

Doug Ross
"La Cigaliere"
"One Bar Too Many"

Jane Coltman
"Amble Pier"

Congratulations to all four.
