Geoffrey Bradford

My dad knew by heart the dialogue of each of these films; we watched them together on every visit to Canada. We never did let on that we had seen them before. They were, as we found them, on the foot stool when we arrived at the house after his death. He loved uncomplicated films about the underdog fighting for the rights of others and hated the idea of injustice and inequality. He would often talk about his ‘run-ins’ with Moseley's Black Shirts in the East End. He was in a reserved occupation during the war and vented his anger and frustration at not being called-up in other ways. I photographed them because they connected me to our shared experience of watching them crackle and judder across the TV screen with him reciting the script.
